Professor Rhian Touyz, MBBCh, MSc(Med), PhD, is the Director of the Institute of Cardiovascular and Medical Sciences (ICAMS), University of Glasgow
Professor Touyz is the world-renowned scientist in hypertension research. She is Director of the Institute of Cardiovascular and Medical Sciences, Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine and head of the Centre of Research Excellence funded by the prestigious British Heart Foundation at University of Glasgow. After her Bachelor and PhD studies in South Africa, she took up a post-doctoral fellowship in Montreal, Canada. She is currently President of the International Society of Hypertensions, Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Science, Deputy Editor of Hypertension, and Associate Editor of Pharmacological Reviews. She also held additional leadership positions and received numerous awards for her research and lectureship including the Harriet Dustan Research Award for distinguished female investigators in the field of hypertension. She has trained over 45 graduate students and has published 360 peer-reviewed papers. Her research interests include molecular mechanisms, redox signalling and vascular biology of hypertension and mechanisms of anti-angiogenic cancer drug-induced hypertension.
